Silence the Distractions: A Brain hack to Boost Focus and Productivity

During my career as a coach and study mentor, I am committed to the learning of Neurological patterns and understandings of how our brains work which I weave into my coaching sessions. If you learn how to learn…then you are half way there!

A little Neurological hack for you to try:

You sit down ready to study and all of a sudden your brain starts to fire random thoughts, ideas, and stuff from your ever growing to-do list!

You are now struggling to focus! Despite your best intentions.

Did you know our brains are primarily linked to your survival mechanism. This means that your focus is designed to break when there is something important related to the past, present or future that you are not supposed to forget.

The problem is that when you sit down to do a task - your brain is firing things your way because it's saying "do you know you have all these things to do and think about"…

So then we try to block those thoughts out which then means your brain is now more heightened in a stress state. You are now using more energy to focus on the task…this results in us feeling more drained and tired after a study session or other focused task.

So what's the solution?

A little focus hack: use a distraction sheet.

Keep a piece of paper near you. Every time you have an idea that needs to be addressed simply write it down and continue with your work.

Writing it down reassures your brain that it's on paper - your brain feels safer that you can come to that list later so that it can maintain a longer state of flow during the task at hand.

This simple but powerful hack is a real game changer for some. I absolutely love the “ilovebrain” training that I regularly undertake in my quest to help my students get to where they need to be.

Remember to focus on the task at hand…step by step. Do it well and then move on! #study #exams #lifecoaching #development
